Job Description
Medical Science Liaison supporting ophthalmology and optometry providers across Southern California, Nevada, and Hawaii. Building KOL relationships, delivering scientific education, and gathering field insights.
Responsibilities:
- Report to the National Director of Field Medical as a field-based scientific expert
- Build and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders in optometry and ophthalmology within the assigned territory
- Serve as the primary Medical Affairs point of contact for scientific exchange and educational engagement with healthcare professionals through virtual and in-person interactions
- Gather actionable field insights and communicate findings to internal stakeholders to help shape medical strategy and initiatives
- Deliver disease state and scientific education to healthcare providers and practice staff
- Support educational initiatives within optometry schools and ophthalmology residency programs
- Provide guidance regarding investigator-initiated research processes and medical information resources
- Identify and recommend expert faculty and advisors for educational programs, advisory boards, publications, clinical research, and Medical Affairs initiatives
- Develop and execute KOL engagement plans and attend local, regional, and national scientific meetings
- Collaborate with professional societies and relevant healthcare organizations within the territory
- Present scientific and clinical information to healthcare stakeholders, including payer audiences
- Contribute leadership and expertise to Medical Affairs projects and cross-functional initiatives
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to training, insights generation, and field medical operations
- Lead and facilitate scientific discussions and educational programs focused on disease awareness and patient care
- Collaborate with Clinical Development, Commercial, Medical Information, and Training
- Support clinical development activities and study-related initiatives when needed
- Maintain territory plans, KOL profiles, CRM documentation, and budget accountability
Requirements:
- Doctor of Optometry (OD), MD, PharmD, or PhD with expertise in ophthalmology, optometry, or eye care
- 2+ years of Medical Science Liaison experience within ophthalmology, optometry, or a related specialty
- Alternative backgrounds may include significant clinical eye care experience combined with industry exposure
- Senior-level opportunities may be available for candidates with 4+ years of prior MSL experience
- Strong scientific communication and presentation skills
- Excellent relationship-building and emotional intelligence
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Experience using CRM platforms, Microsoft Office, and other field-based tools
- Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and communicate actionable insights
- Strong collaboration and cross-functional partnership skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Candidates should reside within the territory, preferably near a major airport
- Approximately 60-80% travel required
