Job Description
Payroll Accounting Manager owning Workday payroll, accounting integration, and compliance. Supporting Monarch’s 37 senior living communities across six states.
Responsibilities:
- Own end-to-end execution of community and corporate on-cycle and off-cycle pay cycles in Workday
- Publish and enforce payroll calendars, input deadlines, and audit/confirmation checkpoints across the portfolio
- Supervise, develop, and balance workload across the Payroll Specialist team
- Own payroll error resolution and root-cause fixes
- Design and maintain payroll process documentation, controls, and business-continuity coverage
- Build standardized intake and onboarding workflows for new hires, status changes, and new position requisitions
- Partner with community and operations leadership on timesheet input standards and compliance
- Own payroll GL configuration in Workday and mapping to Yardi Voyager
- Produce and validate payroll journal entries, accruals, and billbacks with the accounting team
- Reconcile payroll bank and clearing accounts; support month-end close, intercompany allocations, and audit requests
- Design and maintain portfolio-wide corporate and regional salary allocation methodologies with the VP of Accounting
- Serve as primary relationship owner for the managed payroll services partner, including case management, SLA tracking, and quarterly tax balancing review
- Own multi-state payroll tax posture, including registrations, SUI rates, jurisdiction setup, and agency notice resolution across six states
- Oversee garnishments, W-2 season, year-end processing, and unemployment claims coordination
- Build and maintain Workday payroll reports feeding portfolio labor metrics
- Produce a monthly community payroll input scorecard for community and regional leadership
- Report to the VP of Accounting and directly supervise Payroll Specialists
- Support payroll operations across 37 senior living communities in NJ, NY, PA, DE, MA, and CT, plus corporate entities
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 5–8+ years progressive payroll and/or payroll accounting experience
- Multi-state and multi-entity experience required
- Experience at 1,000+ employee scale strongly preferred
- Demonstrated GL/accounting fluency: journal entries, account mapping, cost allocations, reconciliations, and close support
- Yardi exposure a plus
- Experience designing payroll processes, including intake forms, input standards, and position-setup workflows
- Experience driving field/manager accountability for data quality
- Workday Payroll experience strongly preferred, including report writing with custom reports and calculated fields
- Experience with a managed-payroll or BPO vendor relationship a significant plus
- Payroll or HRIS system implementation experience a plus
- Senior living, healthcare, or hospitality industry experience a plus
- Working knowledge of multi-state wage & hour and payroll tax compliance in NJ, NY, PA, DE, MA, and CT
