Job Description
Remote Technical Sales Engineer supporting Tangent’s HDPE PolySheet product line. Advising customers on design, fabrication, compliance, troubleshooting, and technical training.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary technical resource for distributors, dealers, fabricators/OEMs, and direct end-use manufacturers on PolySheet products
- Act as the bridge between the market and Engineering, representing field feedback, performance challenges, and customer needs to Engineering, and communicating engineering and product decisions back to the channel
- Collaborate with customers on design and fabrication solutions, including design recommendations, fabrication and machining techniques, and material/grade selection
- Support fabricators and OEMs with fabrication best practices, tooling and machining guidance, and jobsite or production troubleshooting
- Support new product launches by training distributors, dealers, fabricators, and end-use manufacturers
- Investigate and help resolve field and production challenges with Engineering, Production, and Quality
- Support code, regulatory, and industry compliance documentation relevant to PolySheet’s end markets
- Develop training documents, manuals, and technical resources
- Create and deliver in-person and virtual presentations
- Maintain detailed records of customer interactions, technical support requests, and solutions
- Gather field and channel feedback for Product, Engineering, and R&D teams
- Represent the company at industry trade shows, dealer events, and technical workshops
Requirements:
- Knowledge of plastics, polymers, or construction materials; HDPE experience strongly preferred
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify technical concepts for diverse audiences
- Experience creating technical documents, training resources, or instructional content
- Willingness to travel to customer sites and industry events (up to 75%)
- Experience in fabrication, machining, or structural design with polymer-based products preferred
- Experience with one or more of PolySheet’s end markets preferred: furniture, outdoor kitchens, marine components, playgrounds, or industrial food equipment
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory or industry standards preferred (e.g., NSF/food-contact, marine-grade, playground safety)
- Familiarity with CAD software and technical drawing review preferred
- Prior background building customer training programs (manuals, videos, presentations) preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with sales, Engineering, product development, and manufacturing teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Design, or a related field required (or equivalent technical experience)
- 3+ years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, sheet/plastics supply, or fabrication/manufacturing required
- Ability to travel to customer sites, fabrication facilities, and industry events up to 75% of the time, including by air and car
- Ability to work in and around manufacturing, fabrication, and jobsite environments, which may involve exposure to machinery, noise, and industrial materials
- Ability to stand, move, and present for extended periods while conducting on-site training and trade show demonstrations
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer or traveling
