Job Description

Property Claims Representative investigating and resolving property claims for Preferred Mutual Insurance. Evaluating coverage, liability, damages, reserves, and subrogation opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and resolve property claims promptly and fairly
  • Evaluate files for accurate and timely claim reserving
  • Manage indemnity and loss expenses
  • Conduct investigations to determine liability and claim valuation
  • Adjust schedules to accommodate customer needs and fluctuations in work volume
  • Handle claims of moderate severity and complexity with authority up to $45,000
  • Manage claim procedures, file administration, documentation, and reporting
  • Apply knowledge of Preferred Mutual products and coverages
  • Meet file quality standards established by internal and external audits
  • Maintain workload according to Key Performance Driver standards
  • Identify fraud indicators and use claim-management data to inform decisions
  • Handle low- to moderate-complexity property losses
  • Review Independent Adjuster and vendor reports to determine coverage positions
  • Review estimates for accuracy and identify reserve-change triggers
  • Draft basic coverage position letters
  • Identify and pursue third-party contribution and recovery, including subrogation
  • Handle litigated or potentially litigated files and coordinate management involvement
  • Build relationships with internal and external business partners
  • Partner with Independent Adjusters and stakeholders to deliver positive customer experiences
  • Participate in discussions with Marketing and Agency personnel
  • Participate in training efforts for new hires and existing staff

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 2 or more years of experience in property claim handling and processing
  • Progress toward attaining one professional designation preferred, such as AIC, CPCU, or SCLA
  • Exceptional active listening skills and effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to make timely, definitive, fact-driven decisions
  • Strong time and project management skills
  • Collaboration, group decision making, problem solving, and negotiation skills
  • Integrity in duties and interactions
  • Proficiency in Preferred Mutual technology platforms, including Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and internet-based applications
  • Working knowledge of building materials and construction techniques
  • Knowledge of Personal Lines policies and understanding of Commercial Lines policies
  • Ability to recognize applicable coverages, endorsements, and exclusions
  • Ability to independently draft basic coverage position letters and identify applicable policy citations
  • Understanding of subrogation and third-party contribution and recovery
  • Ability to handle litigated or potentially litigated files
