Job Description
Senior claims specialist managing complex medical malpractice claims and litigation for Ascension, a nonprofit Catholic health system. Directing counsel, negotiating settlements, and improving patient safety through risk mitigation.
Responsibilities:
- Lead strategy and investigation for complex professional liability and medical malpractice claims from initial report through final resolution
- Direct external defense counsel on case action plans and ensure litigation follows organizational guidelines and protocols
- Establish loss reserves and prepare National Claims Committee reports for significant high-exposure matters
- Negotiate directly with plaintiff attorneys and represent the organization at mediations, trials, and depositions
- Collaborate with Risk Management to turn claim outcomes into lessons learned that improve patient safety and reduce future liability
Requirements:
- High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience, or Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience, or 5 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience
- 2 years of leadership or management experience preferred
- Experience investigating and managing complex professional liability and medical malpractice claims
- Experience directing external defense counsel and managing litigation
- Experience establishing loss reserves and preparing claims committee reports
- Experience negotiating settlements and representing an organization at mediations, trials, and depositions
- Experience collaborating with Risk Management on liability reduction and patient safety
