Job Description
Senior Full Stack Engineer building Humana’s healthcare action-management platform with React, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and Kafka. Developing reliable member-action workflows and operational tooling.
Responsibilities:
- Design and build responsive, accessible, and performant user interfaces using React and TypeScript
- Deliver features across the stack, including React applications, Node.js/Fastify services, PostgreSQL data models, and platform integrations
- Build Action Library capabilities for business users to create, configure, version, preview, govern, and publish member actions
- Develop and maintain REST APIs using contract-first principles, shared TypeScript models, and schema validation patterns
- Design and implement PostgreSQL schemas, queries, and data access patterns supporting reliable and performant user experiences
- Develop integrations with orchestration, decisioning, and Kafka-based publishing services
- Translate complex business workflows into intuitive user experiences
- Build automated tests, participate in code reviews, and deliver secure, maintainable, production-quality software
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and platform teams to align requirements, integrations, and technical solutions
- Ensure state transitions are precise, deterministic, resilient to retries, and recover gracefully from failures
- Ensure side effects reliably occur exactly once, including during failures or replays
- Support AI-driven tooling to decrease defect rates and expedite debugging
- Establish the state layer as the definitive source of truth across engineering teams
Requirements:
- 5+ years of full stack software engineering experience with strong React and TypeScript expertise
- Experience building production-grade web applications using modern React architecture and component-based design patterns
- Strong Node.js/TypeScript backend development experience building REST APIs and service-oriented applications
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases, including schema design, query optimization, and data modeling
- Understanding of modern front-end architecture including state management, routing, accessibility, performance optimization, and responsive design
- Experience with API contracts, schema validation, and strongly typed development practices
- Familiarity with containerized application deployment, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native application development
- Strong testing discipline, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing approaches
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and product teams
- Dedicated workspace without ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI/HIPAA information
- Home internet with at least 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speed
- Preferred: Experience with React 19, TanStack Router, Query, Form, and Table
- Preferred: Experience with Fastify, Prisma, Drizzle ORM, Redis, and PostgreSQL performance tuning
- Preferred: Familiarity with OpenAPI specifications, code generation, and contract-first API development
- Preferred: Experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures
- Preferred: Experience building workflow-driven applications, operational consoles, or enterprise business tooling
- Preferred: Familiarity with Kubernetes, Azure DevOps, ArgoCD, and modern deployment pipelines
- Preferred: Experience with OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, and observability platforms
- Preferred: Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, Azure AD, SSO, RBAC, or enterprise identity solutions
- Preferred: Background in healthcare, insurance, or another regulated industry with compliance and PHI handling requirements
