Job Description

C engineer creating runtime-focused codebase Q&A tasks for Mercor’s AI training datasets. Exploring production repositories and validating rubrics for AI-agent reasoning.

Responsibilities:

  • Select tasks from a pre-validated pool of C repositories pinned to specific git commits
  • Explore repositories and relevant pull-request or issue history to understand subsystems
  • Rewrite engineering questions to challenge frontier coding agents while remaining well-defined
  • Adjust rubrics and foils to reward correct reasoning and reject plausible-but-wrong answers
  • Run the validation loop in Mercor Studio: Check, Golden, Run, and Analyze
  • Iterate until every validation stage passes
  • Document work in task READMEs
  • Submit tasks for expert review and address reviewer feedback

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Substantial production C experience
  • Ability to navigate large, unfamiliar C codebases and explain runtime behavior
  • Comfort with preprocessor-heavy builds, platform conditionals, manual memory management, and autotools/CMake/Meson build graphs
  • Experience with databases, cryptography, networking protocols, or systems programming highly relevant
  • Ability to use debuggers, sanitizers, tracing, and profilers
  • Precise written English
  • Must complete identity verification and a background check
  • Must sign Terms of Work and CIIAA
  • Must provide a tax form
  • Must pass a short calibration quiz before task access
