Job Description

TypeScript engineer creating runtime-grounded codebase Q&A tasks for Mercor’s AI-training datasets. Exploring production repositories, refining rubrics, and validating tasks for coding agents.

Responsibilities:

  • Build difficult codebase-exploration tasks involving production TypeScript and JavaScript repositories
  • Select tasks from a pre-validated pool of pinned TypeScript repositories with engineering questions, rubrics, foils, and golden solutions
  • Explore repositories and relevant pull-request or issue history to understand subsystems
  • Rewrite questions to challenge frontier coding agents while remaining well-defined and answerable
  • Adjust rubrics and foils to reward correct reasoning and reject plausible-but-wrong answers
  • Run the full validation loop in Mercor Studio — Check, Golden, Run, Analyze — and iterate until all stages pass
  • Document work in task READMEs and submit tasks for expert review
  • Address reviewer feedback on returned tasks
  • Complete work in Mercor Studio with time tracked by Insightful and access provisioned through Okta
  • Work is reviewed by a second engineer and a super reviewer before acceptance

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Substantial production TypeScript experience
  • Ability to navigate large, unfamiliar TypeScript monorepos and explain runtime behavior
  • Fluency in advanced type systems, module resolution, bundlers and transpilers, and Node and browser runtimes
  • Comfort reading compiler and plugin internals
  • Experience with developer tooling, compilers, test frameworks, GraphQL servers, or state machines highly relevant
  • Precise written English
  • Comfortable with git at commit level, containerized environments, and command-line tooling
  • Must complete identity verification, background check, signed Terms of Work and CIIAA, tax form, and short calibration quiz before task access
  • Qualified applicants may be asked to complete a brief technical assessment or provide additional information

Benefits:

  • Remote work
  • Fully asynchronous work
  • Payment of $130 per approved task
  • Expert team leads across US, India, and Nigeria time zones
  • Identity verification, background check, signed Terms of Work and CIIAA, tax form, and calibration quiz as onboarding support/process
  • Up to $250 referral bonus for each successful referral
  • Reasonable accommodations upon request
