Job Description
Construction Project Accountant managing Yardi project accounting, loan draws, budgets, and closeout for real estate development projects. Fully remote role supporting construction and finance teams.
Responsibilities:
- Manage project setup and accurate job cost accounting, budget tracking, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Review, code, and process contractor and vendor contracts and invoices in Yardi Construction Manager and P2P
- Prepare and review monthly project financial reports and reconciliations, including multi-year cash flow forecasts
- Reconcile project subledgers to the general ledger
- Monitor project budgets, committed costs, actual costs, and forecasts throughout the project life cycle
- Prepare construction draws as needed and monitor cash balances and funding sources
- Enter and maintain jobs, contracts, change orders, and project financial data in Yardi Construction Manager
- Review contractor pay applications, including AIA G702/G703 or equivalent documentation
- Prepare and reconcile construction loan draw packages and track lender/equity funding, sources and uses
- Coordinate project accounting closeout, including final cost reconciliation, contract/commitment closeout, retainage releases, CIP clearing, and transfer of completed projects to fixed assets
- Calculate or support capitalization of eligible development costs, including capitalized interest
- Ensure proper controls for change orders, budget revisions, and commitments
- Collaborate with property managers, construction teams, asset managers, accounts payable, and accounting
- Maintain project documentation, including COI compliance and accurate lien waivers
- Prepare year-end fixed asset schedules and audit and tax support materials
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and system efficiencies
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3+ years of construction or project accounting within a real estate organization
- 2+ years of recent hands-on experience with Yardi Construction Manager
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting, change orders, construction contracts, and project budgeting
- Experience with construction loan draws and CIP accounting
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with accuracy
