Job Description
Global Media Relations Director leading earned-media strategy for Elsevier, a scientific and medical information company. Advising executives and stakeholders across global launches, campaigns, and issues.
Responsibilities:
- Help lead media strategy and support global media activities tied to commercial launches, campaigns, thought leadership initiatives, executive communications, and reactive media inquiries
- Collaborate with segment teams on messaging, bylined articles, pitches, and other media content
- Work with stakeholders in key markets, agencies, and business partners to deliver media goals
- Provide counsel to business segments and markets
- Handle media inquiries, strategic planning, tracking, and measurement
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through education, conferences, and specialist media
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience in media relations or corporate communications
- Experience within a global, matrixed organization or agency setting supporting a large enterprise client
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered
- Established relationships with and credibility among journalists covering science, healthcare, technology, or business
- Experience counseling senior executives on media strategy, positioning, and issue/crisis response
- Strong news judgment and writing skills
- Ability to translate complex scientific and technical topics for a general audience
- Experience managing external PR agencies and cross-functional stakeholders without formal authority
- Advanced verbal communication, policy and procedures, project schedule management, corporate relations initiatives, and media measurement and analytics
- Experienced in presenting solutions, presentation skills, review and reporting, content development processes and workflow, maintaining relationships, managing resistance, and desktop publishing
