Job Description

Director leading American Forests' urban forestry strategy to advance tree equity in the Pacific Northwest. Building partnerships and providing technical assistance to improve urban forestry initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead American Forests' strategy to advance tree equity across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with municipalities and councils, state agencies, local federal partners, and community organizations
  • Connect partners with American Forests' tools and expertise
  • Deliver hands-on technical assistance to help cities and states prioritize, plant, manage, and protect urban trees
  • Support municipalities and partners in adopting American Forests' tools and resources
  • Identify and pursue public and private funding opportunities

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of professional urban forestry experience in the Pacific Northwest
  • Established relationships with municipal and state agencies
  • ISA Certified Arborist and/or Certified Urban Forest Professional preferred
  • Degree in urban forestry, urban planning, landscape architecture, environmental science, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of urban forest planning, canopy assessment, and strategies for equitable community-based urban forestry
  • Advanced knowledge of American Forests’ tree equity tools and resources
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders and informing and leading partnerships
  • Experience growing and managing complex projects in a remote environment
