Job Description
Director leading American Forests' urban forestry strategy to advance tree equity in the Pacific Northwest. Building partnerships and providing technical assistance to improve urban forestry initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead American Forests' strategy to advance tree equity across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with municipalities and councils, state agencies, local federal partners, and community organizations
- Connect partners with American Forests' tools and expertise
- Deliver hands-on technical assistance to help cities and states prioritize, plant, manage, and protect urban trees
- Support municipalities and partners in adopting American Forests' tools and resources
- Identify and pursue public and private funding opportunities
Requirements:
- 5-7 years of professional urban forestry experience in the Pacific Northwest
- Established relationships with municipal and state agencies
- ISA Certified Arborist and/or Certified Urban Forest Professional preferred
- Degree in urban forestry, urban planning, landscape architecture, environmental science, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of urban forest planning, canopy assessment, and strategies for equitable community-based urban forestry
- Advanced knowledge of American Forests’ tree equity tools and resources
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders and informing and leading partnerships
- Experience growing and managing complex projects in a remote environment
