Job Description
Environmental justice fellow advancing NAACP sustainable community and climate advocacy. Developing campaigns, partnerships, research, and policy strategies with the Center for Environmental and Climate Justice.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as an ambassador for the Association to important constituencies
- Build streamlined efforts around disaster resiliency, sustainable communities, zero emissions, air and water quality advocacy, and energy justice
- Establish and maintain processes for managing campaigns, initiatives, and projects
- Coordinate reporting functions and track metrics and outcomes for grant-funded and other work
- Manage and coordinate team, committee, and other meetings
- Assist with administrative and operational functions within the Center
- Contribute to organizational strategy and programming development
- Support legal, policy, social, cultural, and economic analysis to identify priorities and shape advocacy and programming
- Foster new relationships and maintain strategic partnerships with foundations, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and others
- Write research briefs, public comments, reports, blog posts, website content, and other communications
- Provide technical, research, and other assistance to the Director and Center
- Provide intellectual leadership internally and externally
- Manage, coach, galvanize, and collaborate with a nimble team
- Research and coordinate legislative, legal, field, and engagement strategies
- Collaborate with other Centers of Innovation
- Foster communication across the environmental and climate justice space
- Measure and evaluate efforts and outcomes
- Provide technical assistance to state conferences, units, and NAACP committees
- Articulate change strategies and convene stakeholders
- Lead continuous improvement and learning
- Perform other duties assigned by the Director or designee
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s and graduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience preferred
- Minimum of three to five years’ experience in relevant fields, including direct environmental and climate justice experience and experience in non-profit, legal, policy, advocacy, or other civil rights organizations
- Graduate-level internships and fellowships, lived-experience, and volunteer campaign leadership considered acceptable professional experience
- Demonstrated effectiveness in top-tier written and oral communication
- Experience engaging in external partnerships and collaborations with foundations, non-profits, corporations, and other key communities, groups, and coalitions
- Demonstrated background coordinating complex advocacy strategy
- Proven background in legislative, civil rights, community or movement-based advocacy, and/or environmental justice advocacy
- Proven background in project management and grant reporting
- Proven ability to support innovative research projects and engage with broad diverse audiences
- High level of attention to detail, critical thinking, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence
