Job Description

Health Information Specialist processing patient record requests for Datavant, a healthcare data collaboration platform. Maintaining HIPAA compliance, accurate records, and responsive customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Process release-of-information requests and medical record requests accurately and efficiently
  • Safeguard patient privacy and ensure releases comply with authorizations, company policy, facility policy, and HIPAA regulations
  • Take calls from patients, insurance companies, and attorneys regarding medical-record status
  • Document information across multiple platforms using two computer monitors
  • Receive and process requests for patient health information
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of privileged information
  • Maintain working knowledge of company and facility software
  • Follow company and customer-facility codes of conduct and policies
  • Inform the manager about work, site difficulties, and fluctuating volumes
  • Manage patient health records and ensure HIPAA compliance
  • Prepare new patient charts and gather documents from paper and electronic health-record sources
  • Assemble medical records in standard order and ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Create digital images of paperwork for electronic medical records
  • Retrieve and appropriately transmit patient records to internal and external requesters
  • Answer inbound and outbound calls
  • Assist with patient walk-ins and administrative duties such as faxes, mail, and data entry
  • Meet site-specific productivity expectations
  • Schedule pickups and perform other assigned duties

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to commute between locations as needed
  • Able to work overtime during peak seasons when required
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Comfortable utilizing phones, fax machine, printers, and other general office equipment
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills in the English language
  • Detail and quality oriented regarding accurate and compliant medical-record information
  • Strong data entry skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and respond to changing priorities
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to respond to requests in a fast-paced environment
  • This job is not eligible for employment sponsorship
  • Ability to work Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm CST
