Job Description
Health Information Specialist processing patient medical record requests for Datavant’s healthcare data platform. Safeguarding HIPAA compliance, accuracy, confidentiality, and customer service.
Responsibilities:
- Process release-of-information requests and patient health information according to company and facility policies
- Safeguard patient privacy, confidentiality, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA
- Take inbound and outbound calls from patients, insurance companies, and attorneys regarding medical record status
- Document information across multiple platforms using two computer monitors
- Maintain working knowledge of company and facility software
- Inform the manager about work, site difficulties, and fluctuating volumes
- Manage patient health records and ensure records are accurate and complete
- Prepare new patient charts using paper and electronic health record sources
- Assemble medical records in standard order
- Create digital images of paperwork for electronic medical records
- Retrieve and appropriately transmit patient records to internal and external requesters
- Assist with patient walk-ins and administrative duties such as faxes, mail, and data entry
- Schedule pickups as needed
- Meet site-specific productivity expectations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to commute between locations as needed
- Able to work overtime during peak seasons when required
- Basic computer proficiency
- Comfortable utilizing phones, fax machine, printers, and other general office equipment regularly
- Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
- Strong data entry skills
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and respond to changing priorities
- Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to respond to requests in a fast-paced environment
- Must meet productivity expectations
- This job is not eligible for employment sponsorship
- Experience in a healthcare environment is a bonus
- Previous production/metric-based work experience is a bonus
- In-person customer service experience is a bonus
