Job Description

Health Information Specialist processing patient-record requests for Datavant, a healthcare data collaboration platform. Maintaining HIPAA compliance, accurate records, and responsive customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Process release-of-information and medical-record requests accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, authorizations, HIPAA, and privacy regulations
  • Receive and process requests for patient health information
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of privileged information
  • Maintain working knowledge of company and facility software
  • Adhere to company and customer-facility codes of conduct and policies
  • Inform the manager about work, site difficulties, and fluctuating volumes
  • Manage patient health records and safeguard records for HIPAA compliance
  • Prepare new patient charts and gather documents from paper sources and/or electronic health records
  • Assemble medical records in standard order and ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Create digital images of paperwork for storage in electronic medical records
  • Retrieve and appropriately transmit patient records to internal and external requesters
  • Answer inbound and outbound calls and provide medical-record status
  • Assist with patient walk-ins
  • Handle faxes, open mail, perform data entry, and schedule pickups as needed
  • Meet site-specific productivity expectations
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to commute between locations as needed
  • Able to work overtime during peak seasons when required
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Comfortable utilizing phones, fax machine, printers, and other general office equipment regularly
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills in the English language
  • Detail and quality oriented regarding accurate and compliant medical-record information
  • Strong data entry skills
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision and respond to changing priorities and role needs
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks
  • Able to respond to requests in a fast-paced environment
