Job Description
LIDAR Analyst responsible for acquiring, processing, and interpreting 3D laser scan data for mechanical integrity inspections. Ensuring compliance with API standards and producing comprehensive reports.
Responsibilities:
- Perform terrestrial LiDAR scanning of storage tanks (external and internal), pressure vessels and associated components
- Plan scan setups to ensure full coverage of critical areas and minimal shadowing and data gaps
- Establish and verify control points where required
- Document field conditions and constraints
- Register and align multiple scans into a unified point cloud
- Conduct deformation analysis including out-of-roundness, plumbness (tanks), settlement trends, and bulging or localized distortion
- Collaborate with API-certified inspectors to interpret findings and identify code-relevant conditions
- Produce colorized deviation maps, annotated 3D models and quantitative measurement summaries
- Maintain traceable workflow from raw data to final report
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Engineering, or a related technical field or equivalent field experience in LiDAR or industrial inspection
- Minimum 8 years experience with LiDAR scanning systems (e.g., Leica, FARO)
- Proficiency in point cloud software (e.g., Cyclone, Scene, Cloud Compare)
- Working knowledge of pressure vessel and tank geometry and settlement behavior
- Familiarity with requirements of API 653, API 510
- Strong knowledge of NDE/NDT methods (UT, VT, etc.), industrial construction and maintenance
- Familiarity with spatial and geometric reasoning
- Attention to measurement accuracy and detail
- Clear technical communication (visual + written)
