Job Description
Managing Director leading TED Audacious Project’s global search, diligence, and selection of ambitious nonprofit ideas. Building philanthropic networks, rigorous finalist recommendations, and a high-performing discovery team.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Audacious's global search for ambitious ideas and changemakers
- Own end-to-end curation, application, and diligence activities
- Develop and evolve sourcing and curation strategy for each funding cycle
- Monitor emerging trends and innovations relevant to Audacious
- Capture insights and lessons learned to improve annual sourcing and curation
- Identify ideas for advancement into the application stage
- Lead diligence on selected organizations, testing readiness, viability, and portfolio fit
- Build evidence-based finalist recommendations including rationale and risks
- Cultivate ongoing relationships with social-sector leaders, funders, intermediary partners, and sourcing networks
- Represent Audacious's perspective in the field and create opportunities for sector collaboration
- Lead and strategically resource the Discovery and Insight vertical
- Develop team members who can source, conduct diligence, and manage partner relationships
- Steward relationships and collaborate with year-round partners such as The Bridgespan Group
Requirements:
- Experience setting strategy in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments
- Ability to make consequential decisions grounded in clear principles and conviction
- Strong generalist fluency across geographic, social-change, and innovation domains
- Maturity and credibility to engage ultra-high-net-worth individuals, issue experts, and internal teams
- Experience building and developing teams
- Experience leading change-management efforts
- Experience operating through influence across a senior leadership group
- Access to and standing within social-change and social-innovation networks
- Strong mission orientation and high-integrity leadership
- Alignment with Audacious’ values
- Creative, team-oriented, and collaborative approach
- Intellectual curiosity and current knowledge of social change and emerging philanthropy trends
- Ability to lead ways to evolve the organization’s work

- Strongly preferred: familiarity with funder-collaborative platforms and philanthropic sourcing/investment mechanisms
- Strongly preferred: experience in multinational and culturally diverse organizations
