Job Description

Remote Real Estate Closing Paralegal supporting Connecticut residential and commercial transactions. Preparing closing documents, coordinating parties, and tracking title, recording, lender, and post-closing requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Support a Connecticut real estate practice through residential and applicable commercial transactions from file opening through post-closing.
  • Perform assigned responsibilities under the direction and supervision of a Connecticut-licensed attorney without independently conducting closings, providing legal advice, or practicing law.
  • Assist attorneys and staff with real estate and administrative matters.
  • Support clients during time-sensitive transactions and communicate regarding required documents, scheduling, and transaction status.
  • Record time and transaction activity according to firm procedures.
  • Assist with escrow and client funds reconciliation.
  • Follow cybersecurity, wire transfer, identity verification, records retention, and document destruction procedures.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and physical files, calendars, contact information, transaction notes, and closing checklists.
  • Track deadlines, recordings, post-closing conditions, recording rejections, title matters, and outstanding documents.
  • Return completed lender packages within required timeframes.
  • Obtain signatures, acknowledgments, notarizations, identification, and supporting documents.
  • Assemble signing packages and assist the supervising attorney before, during, and after closings.
  • Proofread and prepare closing, conveyancing, title, lender, tax, escrow, disbursement, and other transaction documents for attorney review.
  • Submit documents for recording or e-recording with Connecticut municipal land record offices.
  • Review financial, title, lender, municipal, survey, payoff, lien, and other due diligence information.
  • Identify and escalate potential title defects or transaction issues to the supervising attorney.
  • Coordinate with lenders, mortgage brokers, real estate agents, title companies, surveyors, municipal offices, insurance representatives, and opposing counsel.
  • Prepare Connecticut Real Estate Conveyance Tax Return materials, including Form OP-236 and applicable schedules, and assist with myCTREC submissions.
  • Open, organize, and maintain residential purchase, sale, refinance, and applicable commercial real estate files.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years of experience supporting residential real estate purchases, sales, and refinances.
  • Working knowledge of real estate contracts, title searches, lender requirements, deeds, mortgages, liens, payoff statements, settlement statements, and recording procedures.
  • Experience managing multiple transactions and deadlines in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned matters while recognizing when attorney review, approval, or direction is required.
  • Ability to protect confidential client, financial, and personally identifiable information.
  • Preferred experience preparing title commitments, title policies, and endorsements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, email platforms, document management systems, and electronic filing or recording platforms.
  • Preferred experience with SoftPro, Qualia, E-Closing, comparable real estate closing platforms, and myCTREC.
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
