Job Description

Paralegal representing drivers in serious and fatal motoring offences for DAC Beachcroft. Handling police stations, courts, inquests, evidence, witnesses and insurer reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide police station representation to drivers under police investigation for serious and fatal road traffic offences
  • Attend Magistrates' Court and Crown Court with counsel to assist counsel and clients in criminal proceedings
  • Attend coroner's court with counsel in relation to inquests concerning fatal road traffic collisions
  • Analyse and advise on evidence
  • Attend police interviews
  • Brief counsel
  • Report to insurer clients
  • Interview witnesses and draft witness statements
  • Manage the finances of own caseload, including regular billing
  • Work to productivity, fee income and client KPI targets
  • Handle a varied workload in accordance with client protocols
  • Act as a client point of contact
  • Comply with firm billing and credit-control protocols
  • Build awareness of the firm's other services and develop internal and external networks
  • Maintain awareness of firm strategies and plans
  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge and handle confidential information according to data-security protocols

Requirements:

  • Experienced and knowledgeable lawyer
  • Police station accredited
  • At least 2 years’ experience gained in criminal litigation
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to deal appropriately and sensitively with drivers involved in serious and fatal road traffic accidents
  • Meet and exceed budgetary requirements in terms of both time and fee income
  • Proactive and energetic with a tenacious approach to identifying issues and solving problems
  • Willingness to work out of hours where required to attend police stations
  • Ability to work to productivity and fee income targets, client Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and strict quality working standards
  • Team-oriented and collegiate approach to sharing knowledge and working with senior and junior colleagues across different locations and practice groups
  • Must have a full driving licence and be prepared to travel
