Job Description
Medical Imaging Scheduler coordinating appointments, insurance verification, and patient preparation for Wellstar’s integrated Georgia healthcare system. Handling high-volume calls and accurate scheduling data entry.
Responsibilities:
- Schedule Medical Imaging appointments via inbound and/or outbound telephone calls or in person
- Provide outstanding customer service in a fast-paced environment
- Drive system-wide volumes by scheduling Medical Imaging appointments
- Apply knowledge of Medical Imaging exams, modalities, patient preparations, and instructions
- Verify diagnosis codes, insurance requirements, testing frequencies, payors, authorizations, and referrals
- Perform medical necessity checks and follow the ABN process
- Conduct exam pre-screening to ensure patients meet test criteria
- Coordinate specialized Radiologist exams with the correct facility schedule
- Schedule Cardiopulmonary procedures, including echocardiograms
- Process EMR, fax, email, electronic, and paper orders
- Work with Medical Imaging Schedule Orders Work Queues
- Handle heavy phone volumes using appropriate telephone etiquette and scripting
- Accurately enter, verify, and correct patient, demographic, insurance, and scheduling data
- Obtain required information from patients, representatives, and physician offices
- Verify payors through real-time eligibility, web, or phone
- Exercise judgment in emergent situations, solve problems, retain composure, and escalate issues as necessary
- Interact professionally with co-workers, patients, and referring office staff
- Promote positive working relationships with team leads, supervisors, and managers
- Orientate new employees and document training
- Assist other Scheduling areas and participate in interviews for new hires when asked
- Meet Service Recovery and Customer Service guidelines
- Comply with Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High School Diploma General or GED General
- Minimum 1 year of experience in customer service or medical scheduling
- Strong customer service skills
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Basic insurance carrier and pre-certification knowledge preferred
- Computer skills preferred
- Basic typing and data entry experience
- Medical Terminology preferred
- Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English language
- Positive attitude
- High level of attention to detail and low error rate
- Regular, reliable attendance
- Flexible with work hours to meet department needs
