Job Description

Senior Director leading enterprise AI solution architecture at Amgen, a biotech company developing innovative medicines. Building scalable, governed AI products and teams that deliver measurable business impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and lead Amgen’s enterprise AI solution architecture strategy
  • Translate complex business needs into scalable AI products, platforms, and capabilities
  • Co-create AI solutions with stakeholders across R&D, Operations, Commercial, and corporate functions
  • Scope large-scale AI initiatives and decompose ambiguous opportunities into executable solution pathways
  • Develop solution blueprints connecting business objectives, user needs, AI/ML methods, data, platforms, integrations, governance, and ROI
  • Assess technical feasibility, value potential, complexity, data readiness, operating models, and adoption pathways
  • Partner with engineering, data, platform, architecture, product, security, privacy, legal, compliance, and domain teams
  • Establish reusable standards and frameworks for AI solution intake, prioritization, decomposition, value assessment, architecture review, and delivery readiness
  • Build, lead, and develop the AI solution architecture function
  • Set standards and approve architecture approaches, frameworks, trade-offs, and delivery pathways
  • Guide build-versus-buy recommendations, vendor evaluations, platform alignment, and integration decisions
  • Represent AI Solution Architecture in executive forums and governance discussions
  • Structure, hire, develop, and performance-manage the AI solution architecture team
  • Produce solution blueprints, reusable patterns, executive decision materials, and measurable value realization across AI initiatives

Requirements:

  • Doctorate degree and 4 years of AI, machine learning, data science, computer science, engineering, product, technology strategy, or related experience; or Master’s degree and 6 years of such experience; or Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of such experience
  • 4+ years of direct managerial experience, including experience managing managers or senior technical leaders
  • 12+ years of experience in AI/ML, data science, enterprise architecture, product management, technology strategy, or related leadership roles preferred
  • Proven track record designing, scaling, or leading enterprise AI products, platforms, or solutions with measurable business impact and ROI preferred
  • Deep technical understanding of modern AI/ML methods, generative AI, applied machine learning, data platforms, APIs, cloud architecture, MLOps, and production AI systems preferred
  • Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into AI solution architectures, execution plans, value cases, and adoption pathways
  • Experience decomposing large-scale, cross-functional AI initiatives into workstreams, milestones, architecture decisions, and operating model requirements
  • Strong business acumen connecting AI capabilities to product outcomes, operational performance, financial impact, and enterprise strategy
  • Biotech, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or regulated industry experience preferred
  • Familiarity with responsible AI, privacy, security, regulatory, and model-risk considerations preferred
