Job Description
Affirm, a buy-now-pay-later fintech, seeks a quantitative risk leader to validate machine-learning underwriting and credit models. Leading MRM strategy, technical reviews, remediation, and quantitative team development.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the underwriting and credit risk validation sector within the Model Risk Management framework
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of quantitative professionals and set strategic direction
- Execute independent validations of sophisticated machine learning models across underwriting and credit risk management
- Evaluate conceptual soundness, data integrity, and performance stability through testing, reviews, and continuous monitoring
- Detect model weaknesses and collaborate with model owners and developers to resolve validation findings
- Implement and refine the enterprise-wide Model Risk Management framework with cross-functional stakeholders
- Coordinate with Accounting, Internal Controls, and Compliance teams to meet internal standards and regulatory expectations
Requirements:
- 9+ years of professional experience in a highly technical role such as model development, model validation, or quantitative analytics
- Deep understanding of machine learning modeling, underwriting, and credit risk management
- Advanced ability to script in Python
- Expertise using SQL to manipulate and analyze large-scale, complex datasets
- Proven track record hiring, managing, and mentoring quantitative teams
- Ability to move between strategic oversight and hands-on technical work
- BS, MS, or PhD in Statistics, Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Data Science, or another quantitative discipline
- Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, curiosity about model mechanics, and critical-thinking skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
