Job Description
Senior Manager shaping Airbnb’s technical brand through engineering content, developer relations, events, and open source. Connecting technical storytelling and distribution to senior engineering hiring outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Decide what the engineering world knows about Airbnb
- Run the Airbnb Tech Blog end to end, including sourcing topics, coaching engineer-authors, editing, and coordinating legal, security and communications reviews
- Establish and maintain a dependable publishing rhythm
- Identify cross-team technical narratives and publish connected content sets
- Help engineers and technical leaders build public presence through bylines, talks, speaker coaching, and new-voice development
- Partner with the CTO to establish his public technical presence
- Establish Airbnb's canonical technical content home on an Airbnb-owned domain
- Develop missing distribution surfaces, including video, and define the purpose of social channels
- Set conference and event strategy, manage hosted events, and oversee academic collaborations and technical media relationships
- Manage related budgets and vendors
- Steward Airbnb's open source presence and ensure public claims and projects are accurate and maintained
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to connect technical brand work to hiring outcomes and assess attribution
Requirements:
- Substantial experience in technical content, developer relations, engineering communications or technical editorial, including direct work with engineers
- Technical fluency sufficient to participate in systems design conversations, read design documents, and assess technical content
- Editorial judgment and hands-on editing skills
- Ability to influence without formal authority by building systems and incentives
- Experience owning events, budgets and vendors end to end
- Ability to connect brand work to funnel outcomes and understand attribution limits
- Experience navigating legal and security review and assessing publication risk
- Nice to have: Experience migrating a technical publication between platforms, including SEO and redirect work
- Nice to have: Experience running or fixing an open source program
- Nice to have: Experience helping a senior executive build a public technical presence
- Nice to have: Familiarity with AI and ML engineering topics and academic or research communications
- Nice to have: Video or multi-format content experience
- Must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity
