Job Description

Staff Accountant managing Brown & Brown’s general ledger, reporting, budgeting, and reconciliations. Supporting financial controls, audits, FP&A, and regional accounting procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily general ledger operations, journal entries, and account reconciliations
  • Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing and reporting processes
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and resolve bank issues
  • Identify financial variances by comparing actual results with plans, forecasts, and prior year
  • Maintain general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement across the organization
  • Review and approve expense reports
  • Maintain/update fixed asset roster within Workday
  • Compile and analyze financial information for the organization
  • Assist in developing the budget and support FP&A
  • Assist with training and creating standardized procedures for the region
  • Support monthly/quarterly compliance control self-assessments
  • Maintain security by following internal controls and segregation of duties
  • Provide audit support by preparing required documentation and explanations
  • Promote teamwork among teammates, finance, sales, and operational groups and departments
  • Prepare management ad-hoc reporting and analysis as needed
  • Complete cross-training and other additional assigned tasks

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university with an accounting or finance concentration, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in accounting is required
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Highly skilled in dealing with financial and numeric data
  • Ability to multi-task and perform expectations in a highly stressful environment
  • Willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Professional and friendly attitude and mannerism
