Job Description

Bridge Construction Manager overseeing multiple highway and transportation infrastructure projects in British Columbia. Providing leadership, planning, and direction for successful project delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and guide project staff to ensure successful delivery of client’s projects
  • Provide structures construction management and contract administration leadership and support
  • Lead review of client requests for service and provide detailed work plans including staff resourcing with budget estimates
  • Support preparation of responses to requests for qualifications, expressions of interest and proposals
  • Develop solutions to quality problems during construction in a team environment
  • Plan development of projects, schedule and coordinate resources, prepare project schedules
  • Understand project scope and ensure clarity among clients, staff, and subconsultants
  • Review plans and contracts to troubleshoot issues prior to project tendering
  • Plan and attend pre-construction meetings to support project delivery team
  • Monitor and control costs and expenses related to projects
  • Provide updates to project managers on budget status
  • Act as a structures technical expert on project teams and ensure objectives and quality expectations are met
  • Work with Division Manager to prioritize work and establish staff and equipment allocation schedules
  • Collaborate with Engineers of Record and Project Managers for design changes
  • Monitor project progress and revise schedules as required
  • Ensure quality management and assurance activities are performed and conduct quality audits
  • Provide support on construction disputes and contractor claims
  • Participate in value engineering and analysis reviews of projects
  • Continue professional development to ensure knowledge of advances in the field
  • Seek talent to recruit for the division and provide adequate training for staff
  • Meet with staff to discuss issues, review work and progress
  • Provide feedback and carry out performance evaluations
  • Review and approve timesheets and expense reports
  • Oversee creation and implementation of best practice work procedures
  • Establish communication protocols with clients and maintain updates throughout project lifecycle
  • Review contracts and specifications to suit client needs and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor client budgets and ongoing cost progress
  • Keep clients updated on expenses and coordinate budget revisions as needed
  • Review Binnie’s performance with clients periodically
  • Prepare budget estimates for staff effort, subconsultants and disbursements
  • Prepare project proposals based on client and project requirements
  • Identify necessary subconsultant expertise and obtain proposals
  • Ensure documentation flow is managed between involved parties
  • Ensure field staff maintain comprehensive project records and status reports
  • Routine travel to assess and support field staff on project sites.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Structural Technology OR related engineering degree, OR educated to grade 12 and completed structures construction related courses
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in bridge construction supervision environment with at least 5 years of structures construction management experience
  • Extensive experience managing complex, multi-year highway structures construction projects
  • Extensive experience supervising and managing transportation structural construction work, specifically bridge construction
  • Extensive experience in developing and managing contracts, quality management systems, budgets and deadlines
  • Extensive experience collaborating with key team members in preparing responses to Requests for Qualifications and Requests for Proposals
  • Valid Driver’s License and personal vehicle for travel to job sites
  • Strong organizational and document control skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple assignments
  • Previous staff management experience preferred
  • Registration as an AScT, P.Eng. and/or CPWI preferred
  • Working knowledge of design programs such as AutoCAD, Civil3D and CAiCE is an asset.
