Job Description
BI Analyst developing dashboards, data governance, and enterprise reporting for the National Laboratory of the Rockies. Supporting energy innovation through financial analytics and systems integration.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in stakeholder discussions to define and document requirements for reports and dashboards
- Serve as a subject matter expert for data visualization, reporting best practices, and data management frameworks
- Design and develop dashboards and visualizations
- Conduct data analysis and modeling to identify trends, insights, and recommendations
- Develop and document business requirements for data sets, reports, and dashboards
- Test and validate reports and dashboards against business and technical requirements
- Define, validate, and manage business definitions for data sets and reporting schemas
- Collaborate with ITS on data governance, data set delivery, and BI system troubleshooting
- Enhance data governance policies and ensure enterprise data accuracy and integrity
- Contribute to development of data sets aligned with business requirements and reporting needs
- Provide troubleshooting and support for BI stakeholders and end-users
- Maintain system documentation and training materials
- Support education and training for customers using BI and reporting tools
- Analyze new data sources for integration into the enterprise reporting framework
- Recommend and implement enhancements to the OCFO BI reporting framework for performance and scalability
- Contribute to cross-functional projects aligned with OCFO objectives
Requirements:
- Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience; or relevant Master's Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience
- Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date
- Eligibility may be restricted based on citizenship due to access to Controlled Unclassified Information
- Basic understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts
- Basic knowledge of database concepts, data modeling, and schema design
- Basic knowledge of Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, or other reporting tools
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity tools
- Ability to access, query, analyze, and model incoming data
- General knowledge of related disciplines
- Ability to work independently under general supervision and exercise judgment within established practices and procedures
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, matrixed organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Strong team orientation
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience with SQL coding for data extraction, transformation, and optimization
- Experience with Python, including Pandas
- Experience with parquet files
- Experience with Oracle databases
- Experience with Azure SQL or other cloud-based database environments
- Experience with data engineering and data science techniques
- Experience restructuring legacy financial data and optimizing wide tables
- Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including DAX and governance best practices
- Experience designing data visualizations and implementing reporting frameworks
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and SmartView reporting
- Experience with financial systems
- Ability to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card and pass a favorable background investigation
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test
