Job Description
Payroll and accounts payable manager overseeing compliant payroll, vendor payments, controls, and staff operations. Supporting Blood Cancer United’s mission to advance blood cancer cures.
Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance
- Review and validate hires, terminations, compensation changes, deductions, and timekeeping data
- Perform payroll reconciliations, reporting, post-payroll audits, year-end activities, W-2s, tax filings, and audit support
- Investigate and resolve payroll issues, employee inquiries, discrepancies, and compliance matters
- Oversee accounts payable activities, including invoice processing, approvals, purchase order matching, vendor maintenance, payment runs, and issue resolution
- Ensure accurate and timely payments in accordance with company policies, internal controls, and approval requirements
- Support 1099 reporting, Sales & Use Tax reporting, escheatment activities, and audits
- Maintain payroll and accounts payable systems and partner with HR, Finance, and IT on enhancements, integrations, testing, and process improvements
- Ensure compliance with payroll, tax, accounting, and regulatory requirements
- Strengthen internal controls and improve accuracy, efficiency, and service delivery
- Manage vendor and employee inquiries and maintain vendor records and payroll data integrity
- Supervise and develop staff, assign workloads, monitor performance, and support training and procedural compliance
- Provide day-to-day operational oversight, escalate complex or high-risk issues, track performance, and support continuous improvement
Requirements:
- 10+ years of progressive payroll experience, including responsibility for payroll processing, compliance, and issue resolution
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Prior experience supervising staff or overseeing day-to-day workflow preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and other reporting requirements
- Experience with Dayforce required
- Experience supporting accounts payable activities and related payment processes preferred
- Strong knowledge of payroll processing, payroll taxation, wage and hour requirements, and related federal, state, and local regulations
- Working knowledge of accounts payable processes, payment controls, and related compliance requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong systems aptitude, including experience with HRIS/payroll systems, reporting, and process improvements
- Strong organizational and supervisory skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
