Job Description
People Operations professional supporting Epoch AI, a research institute studying machine learning trends and AI’s economic consequences. Managing onboarding, HR systems, compliance, benefits, and staff support remotely.
Responsibilities:
- Report to the COO and soon the Head of People while working closely with the people operations team
- Own employee and contractor onboarding and offboarding processes
- Serve as a main point of contact for staff support, including benefits, payroll, policies, and other concerns
- Maintain the internal handbook containing staff guidance, policies, and processes
- Manage relationships with PEOs, EORs, and other HR service providers
- Track employee and contractor contracts and amend them as required
- Manage employment visa sponsorship processes
- Coordinate performance reviews
- Track compliance requirements across jurisdictions where staff are employed
- At Manager level, own HR and staff support functions end-to-end, design processes and policies, drive strategic decisions on providers, benefits, and compliance, shape organizational culture and staff experience initiatives, and mentor the People Operations Associate
Requirements:
- Operations mindset: identify issues, track fast-moving tasks, prioritize, and implement solutions efficiently
- Systems orientation and interest in optimizing processes and eliminating inefficiencies
- Ownership and initiative in identifying issues and solutions
- Great communication skills and comfort with open, direct feedback
- 2+ years of experience in people operations or HR
- Manager level: 5+ years of experience in operations, including people management experience
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Comfort with remote work
- Prior familiarity with and interest in Epoch’s mission
- Professional-level English proficiency
- Ability/preference to overlap with UTC−8 (Pacific Time) and UTC (Greenwich Mean Time)
- Candidates who can travel are preferred
Benefits:
- Annual salary between $95,000–$139,000 USD at the Associate level and $115,000–$153,000 at the Manager level, depending on seniority and location
