Job Description
Radiation Safety Officer red-teaming Mercor’s frontier AI models. Writing dual-use prompts and evaluating responses for radiological safety and misuse potential.
Responsibilities:
- Write challenging single-turn prompts in radiological safety, labelled as benign, dual-use, or adversarial
- Evaluate model responses against a defined policy standard
- Judge whether responses handled legitimate and dangerous requests correctly
- Write reference answers and explain the technical reasoning behind them
- Distinguish routine professional questions from requests indicating misuse
- Provide written rationales that non-specialists can understand
- Read and write about misuse scenarios in radiological safety for sustained periods
Requirements:
- Must have held the radiation safety officer licence, not merely worked under it
- Experience as the person of record for acquisition, inventory, transfer, and disposal
- Relevant background such as named RSO on a broad-scope licence, RSO or deputy RSO at a university, hospital, or research institute, industrial or irradiator RSO, licensing and compliance specialist, or radiation protection manager
- Experience with radionuclide and sealed-source programmes, Category 1 and 2 sealed sources, radiography, gauging, sterilisation, licensing, regulatory submissions, amendments, inspections, ALARA, audits, training, and incident reporting, as applicable
- Strong written communication; every judgment must include a rationale understandable to a non-specialist
- Prior technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience is strongly preferred
- Must not draw on classified or export-controlled information, NDA-covered information, or prepublication review-obligation material
- Must disclose any such obligations so the work can be scoped accordingly
Benefits:
- Earn up to $250 for each successful referral through the unique referral link
- Reasonable accommodations upon request
- Ability to pause or step away from the work at any point without penalty
