Job Description
Senior collections specialist managing complex accounts for Avēsis, a supplemental benefits provider. Resolving billing disputes, improving collections, and coaching team members remotely across the United States.
Responsibilities:
- Manage high-volume, high-risk, and escalated accounts through timely resolution
- Research, analyze, and resolve complex billing, payment, eligibility, and reconciliation discrepancies
- Handle delinquent accounts and provide dispute resolution
- Guide Collections team members on complex account situations and best practices
- Analyze delinquency trends and recurring issues to identify root causes
- Partner with Billing, Cash Application, Client Services, Account Management, and other internal teams
- Monitor collection performance and aging trends
- Support workflow optimization and process improvement initiatives
- Maintain documentation of collection efforts, dispute research, resolutions, and customer communications
- Coach and support less experienced team members
Requirements:
- 5+ years of collections or accounts receivable experience
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or equivalent work experience
- Demonstrated experience handling complex accounts
- Strong analytical and leadership capabilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including intermediate Excel skills: VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, and Pivot Tables
- Experience with Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint
- Experience using accounts receivable systems
- Ability to learn and navigate multiple systems and databases
- Internet service supporting essential duties, with sufficient speeds of 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload while hardwired and not on a VPN
- Preferred: experience in vision, dental, healthcare, insurance, or benefits administration
- Preferred: experience with premium, membership, or group insurance billing operations
- Preferred: experience with ERP, billing, CRM, or insurance administration systems
- Preferred: experience supporting commercial groups, government accounts, municipalities, schools, or retiree programs
- Preferred: exposure to process improvement, automation, or workflow optimization projects
- Preferred: familiarity with audit support and internal controls
