Job Description

Senior paralegal managing U.S. transportation litigation and claims for Charger Logistics, a North American asset-based carrier. Coordinating evidence, discovery, counsel, deadlines, and litigation files.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support commercial-auto bodily injury, catastrophic-loss, property-damage and transportation litigation/claims.
  • Coordinate immediate evidence preservation following significant accidents, including driver qualification/personnel records, ELD/HOS, telematics/GPS, ECM data, dashcam/video, maintenance/inspection records, dispatch communications, bills of lading, photographs, police reports and witness information.
  • Review accident reports, demand packages, medical records and claim documentation and prepare litigation chronologies.
  • Under attorney supervision, prepare first drafts of answers, responses, affidavits/declarations, notices, motions and other litigation documents.
  • Assist with interrogatories, requests for production/admission, subpoenas, discovery, document collection and legal holds.
  • Prepare exhibits, document and medical summaries, deposition/mediation materials and trial binders.
  • Maintain complete litigation files and calendars and track pleading, discovery, deposition, mediation, motion and trial deadlines.
  • Maintain concise case summaries identifying allegations, damages, exposure, defence strategy, deadlines and next steps.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel, monitor case strategy, budgets and deadlines, and assist with review of outside counsel invoices and litigation expenses.
  • Coordinate with Claims, Safety, Operations, Maintenance, Insurance/Risk Management and other departments.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of litigation, claims or senior paralegal experience.
  • Strong preference for trucking/transportation litigation, commercial-auto liability, catastrophic-loss or insurance-defence experience.
  • Experience with a motor carrier, insurer, TPA, self-insured transportation company or transportation-defence law firm is highly desirable.
  • Strong U.S. litigation/discovery knowledge.
  • Legal drafting ability.
  • Docket/file management skills.
  • Familiarity with trucking evidence and FMCSA-related documentation.
