Job Description
Translator & Editor developing and adapting French educational content for K12 students at Nelson. Collaborating with teams to enhance engagement and adherence to curriculum standards.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Content Producer (French), Content & Curriculum, work closely with all members of the Content & Curriculum team to translate, adapt, and refine high-quality learning content across language, socials, science, and math to support French Immersion & Core French students in K12.
- Projects are often high-intensity and high-profile, requiring a broad skillset and a willingness to work flexibly and hands-on to deliver accurate, polished solutions to customers within target timelines.
- Rapid, Responsive French Content Development and Translation: 65%
- Translate, write, research, edit, storyboard, and create student- and teacher-facing material in Edwin to support market needs and boost engagement and retention.
- As required, communicate requirements, delegate tasks, and review the work of Nelson staff and freelancers to ensure competing deadlines and priorities are met.
- Use an agile workflow and development process to develop app-ready Edwin content.
- Respond promptly to internal and external content requirements, including new development, licensing, or repackaging of content.
- Editorial Leadership: 25%
- Use customer feedback and usage data to collaboratively prioritize and plan content for revisions and/or additions to the Edwin library with C&C Leads & Specialists.
- Populate an editorial calendar for featured Edwin content in collaboration with C&C Leads and Commercial team to feature content in a timely manner.
- In collaboration with Content & Curriculum, Content Services and Design team, manage project specific authoring templates, guidelines, and best practices for developing consistent, bias-free, inclusive, and engaging Edwin content experiences.
- Research, write, edit, and storyboard text/audio/video/interactive experiences for Edwin.
- As needed, supply marketing with key benefit statements of profiled learning experiences.
- Content Experience Design & Conceptualization 10%
- Work in consultation with internal and external stakeholders to conceptualize and create enticing content learning experiences that drives usage, retention and user delight.
- Constantly consider the voice of the customer when authoring and developing new material, understanding teaching and learning challenges, approaches, curriculum, pedagogy, and initiatives that drive classroom needs, engagement and retention.
- Develop content outlines and plans, and release schedules for assigned Edwin LOs, projects, collections, and modules; authoring or overseeing the authorship of these through to publication/live in app.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, French, Linguistics, Translation, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and professional experience in K–12 settings
- Exceptional understanding of K12 pedagogy, curriculum, and instructional design, with demonstrated experience supporting French Immersion and Core French programs
- High level of proficiency in French and English, with the ability to translate and adapt educational content accurately and appropriately for student audiences
- Experience with educational translation and localization, ensuring linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and age-appropriate language
- Knowledge of second-language acquisition principles and best practices for French Immersion instruction and acquisition
- Ability to work both independently and to collaborate with educators, curriculum developers, and subject-matter experts
- Proven experience developing, adapting, and reviewing French Immersion learning resources aligned with curriculum outcomes in Canada
- Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and editorial judgment
- Proficient problem-solver and driver of ideas
- Experience developing inclusive, accessible, and culturally responsive educational materials that support UDL
- Experience working within provincial/territorial curriculum frameworks (asset)
- Significant experience in authoring, editing, and content creation for web, app, videos, interactives, and/or games in the EdTech sector
- Flexible technological mindset keeps user experience top priority while embracing new and evolving software, AI, technologies and skillset requirements
- Working ability in HTML is a bonus.

- All freelance work at Nelson is carried out on a work-for-hire basis, with freelancers submitting invoices for work on agreed-upon tasks and projects. The rate of pay ranges depending on experience and skill level, or sometimes according to predetermined task-based flat rates.
