Job Description

CARIAD, Volkswagen Group’s automotive software company, seeking an intern/thesis student researching radar-camera fusion. Developing robust SLAM, localization, state-estimation, and 3D-mapping methods for autonomous vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  • Independent research into novel approaches for fusing radar and camera data
  • Development and evaluation of methods for robust state estimation, localization, and/or 3D mapping
  • Planning and conducting experiments and comparing approaches with the current state of the art
  • Analysis of results and extraction of insights to advance multimodal SLAM algorithms
  • Participation in research projects on radar-camera fusion and robust SLAM for autonomous vehicles
  • Collaboration with PhD researchers at the interface between research and industry

Requirements:

  • Excellent academic achievements
  • Enrolled student in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a comparable program
  • Knowledge of sensors for autonomous driving and measurement techniques
  • Programming skills and practical experience in Python and/or C++
  • Very good written and spoken English
  • Open, team-oriented, and passionate about autonomous driving systems and solving challenging technical problems
  • Initial research experience, e.g., through internships, projects, scientific publications, or programming competitions, is an advantage
