Job Description

AbbVie Account Specialist expanding Anti-Infectives access and sales across San Jose healthcare accounts. Building hospital relationships, formulary adoption, and compliant product strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Maximize opportunities for the Anti-Infectives product portfolio within the assigned geography
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with hospitals, IDNs, academic institutions, outpatient accounts, long-term care facilities, government accounts, and specialty private practices
  • Increase patient access, develop new business, expand existing business, maximize resource utilization, and achieve geography sales goals
  • Advance hospital and specialty customers through the sales continuum and gain prescriber commitments
  • Deliver on-label product presentations and sales calls
  • Differentiate the portfolio value proposition among executives, physicians, hospital staff, and support personnel
  • Solve product and patient-flow issues through specialty pharmacy, specialty distribution, and Buy and Bill channels
  • Coordinate stakeholders across departments around patient-focused solutions
  • Build relationships that provide market intelligence and support compliant programs and initiatives
  • Partner with field and in-house AbbVie teams, including MSLs, National Director of Accounts, and Key Account Directors
  • Create, execute, and monitor strategic geography business plans
  • Determine account-level department, channel, HCP focus, and contact frequency
  • Source and interpret account data; maintain account profiles and relationship maps
  • Target key stakeholders and decision-makers to expand physician usage and the customer base
  • Participate in local boards, societies, conventions, and HCP meetings
  • Complete required training and comply with company policies and OEC/Legal procedures
  • Meet healthcare industry representative credentialing requirements
  • Collaborate across healthcare institutions and cross-functional teams to develop compliant communication strategies

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy, or a business-related field preferred, or relevant equivalent industry experience required
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree: at least five (5) years of experience, with three (3) or more years in the pharmaceutical/health/science industry preferred
  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Account-based selling experience with hospitals, wound care centers, or infusion centers
  • Experience building hospital advocacy for acute products
  • Experience navigating matrix environments and complex customers such as IDNs, academic institutions, hospitals, and outpatient accounts
  • Knowledge of formulary approval processes and driving formulary approvals
  • Experience with Buy and Bill and specialty pharmacy products preferred
  • Documented strong sales performance and consistent top-performer history
  • Advanced sales skills and ability to communicate novel or complex products and processes
  • Strong business acumen, analytical ability, planning, organization, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to analyze diverse data sets using multiple tools and define account/program strategies
  • Ability to learn procedural, technical, and clinical information quickly
  • Ability to understand and present complex scientific information to varied audiences
  • Strong problem-resolution skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple accounts
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test and meet safe-driving requirements
  • Ability to travel adequately to cover the territory, including overnight training events and sales meetings
  • Ability to fully cover the assigned geography
  • Must satisfy applicable HCIR credentialing requirements, including potentially background checks, drug screens, immunization/vaccination proof, fingerprinting, and specific licenses
