Job Description
Accounting Manager overseeing day-to-day accounting operations at Cognota, a growing SaaS company. Collaborating with leadership to build scalable accounting processes in a remote setting.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of A/P, A/R, and general ledger accounting
- Maintain and reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts
- Process bi-weekly company payroll
- Own the month-end close process and ensure timely, accurate reporting
- Prepare supporting schedules and reconciliations
- Assist with annual audit and year-end activities
- Handle SaaS revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606/SaaS standards
- Monitor deferred revenue and contract accounting
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reporting packages
- Support cash flow forecasting and variance analysis
- Partner with the COO on budgeting and financial planning
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors
- Maintain proper documentation, internal controls, and audit readiness
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows
- Recommend or help implement improvements to Xero, ApprovalMax, Float, or other systems
Requirements:
- CPA designation (or actively pursuing) preferred
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in SaaS or recurring-revenue environments
- Strong understanding of GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition
- Hands-on experience with Xero, ApprovalMax, Float, QBO, NetSuite, or similar tools
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational capability, and communication skills
- Comfortable working independently in a remote, fast-moving startup environment
