Job Description
Business Development Director growing Ting’s electrical-grid data services across utilities, government, commercial, and insurance markets. Building partnerships, managing complex sales, and closing strategic customer programs.
Responsibilities:
- Develop vertical growth strategies and execute market-development plans for electric utilities, public safety, federal government, commercial, and insurance markets
- Identify priority use cases, buyers, routes to market, and revenue opportunities
- Prospect for, qualify, advance, negotiate, and close direct customer opportunities
- Own revenue targets, sales-cycle progression, and conversion from early-stage interest to contracted programs
- Identify and develop technology, consulting, data, systems-integration, and go-to-market partners
- Lead solution selling by understanding operational priorities, shaping use cases, quantifying value, and aligning Ting data products, delivery methods, commercial models, and implementation approaches
- Build relationships with executive, operational, technical, procurement, security, legal, and policy stakeholders
- Manage pilots, proposals, RFPs, government procurement requirements, negotiations, and contracting
- Maintain CRM discipline, opportunity plans, forecasts, and regular reporting
- Travel to customer and partner sites as business needs require
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Marketing, Legal, Operations, and executive leadership
- Develop proposals, support diligence, prioritize market needs, and turn customer feedback into scalable offerings and repeatable sales plays
Requirements:
- 8+ years of relevant experience in enterprise sales, business development, strategic partnerships, or solution selling
- Demonstrated record of building pipeline and closing complex B2B, public-sector, or data-services opportunities
- Strong relationships and sales experience in one or more target markets: electric utilities, state and local public safety, federal government, commercial enterprises, or insurance
- Ability to develop credibility across additional verticals
- Ability to identify strong use cases and buyers, test routes to market, create demand, and convert early wins into repeatable growth
- Experience selling data products, analytics platforms, APIs, SaaS, enterprise software, or technical integrations
- Ability to translate technical capabilities into business outcomes and communicate with technical and executive audiences
- Ability to manage long, multi-stakeholder sales cycles
- Experience developing account and opportunity strategies, persuasive proposals, and business cases
- Understanding of channel, solution, and go-to-market partnerships, including joint value propositions, roles, economics, enablement, and end-customer pursuit
- Executive presence, clear communication, resilience, independence, consistent follow-through, and ownership of results
