Job Description

Communications and Content Manager producing newsletters, blogs, social content, and thought leadership for CDI, a nonprofit serving U.S. higher education. Expanding audience reach, media coverage, and partnership-supporting marketing collateral.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the editorial calendar and owned content
  • Write, build, and send CDI’s higher education newsletter
  • Produce the blog and maintain a reliable publishing cadence
  • Run a unified organic social calendar across brand, executive, and thought-leadership content
  • Coordinate communications with Partnerships and Marketing around webinars, conferences, target segments, and pipeline impact
  • Turn research into related blog posts, op-ed drafts, social posts, and newsletter features
  • Draft and package thought-leadership content with subject-matter experts
  • Coordinate production timelines with the Impact team and subject-matter experts
  • Build and maintain press lists and draft media pitches
  • Support the VP in securing media coverage
  • Track CDI’s media coverage and mentions
  • Build direct media relationships over time
  • Produce audience-facing marketing collateral and direct external designers
  • Maintain brand templates and standards
  • Run the design-request intake and triage process
  • Produce marketing case studies and testimonials with Demand Generation and Impact teams

Requirements:

  • 5+ years in communications, content marketing, editorial, or journalism
  • Portfolio of published work across newsletters, articles or blogs, social, and long-form formats
  • Strong editorial operations skills, including managing calendars, cadences, and systems
  • Ability to manage multiple content pieces without sacrificing quality or missing deadlines
  • Experience thriving in a startup or scrappy environment
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Ability to produce clear, accurate, on-message content quickly
  • Cross-functional collaboration with subject-matter experts, marketing, and partnerships teams
  • Understanding of newsworthiness and comfort drafting media pitches
  • Ability to build press relationships
  • Strong visual and design judgment
  • Ability to direct external designers and maintain brand templates and standards
  • Political astuteness and alignment with CDI’s nonpartisan mission
  • Comfort with CMS, email platforms such as HubSpot, and social schedulers
  • Ability to use modern AI tools while applying human editing and judgment
  • Familiarity with mission-driven, B2B, higher education, or advocacy contexts is ideal
  • Direct media experience, Canva experience, and familiarity with the higher education landscape are pluses
