Job Description
Content Editor shaping kids Bible-study resources for Lifeway, a Christian publishing ministry. Ensuring theological accuracy, biblical fidelity, and alignment with Baptist teaching.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee the Kids Short-Term resources pipeline, assisting the manager with project management
- Perform substantive editing to ensure theological accuracy, biblical fidelity, and alignment with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000
- Identify, recruit, enlist, and coordinate outside Bible Study writers
- Initiate contracts and request payments for writers
- Lead editorial efforts on assigned projects
- Edit content according to style and branding guidelines
- Verify content accuracy, instructional soundness, and relevance to the target audience
- Develop and invest in relationships with Lifeway customers and church leaders
- Listen to customers and help develop resources based on church practices and customer needs
- Apply Lifeway style and grammar standards
- Make copyfitting decisions and ensure readability and accuracy across print and digital formats
- Participate in planning meetings, ministry conversations, and cross-team discussions
- Travel approximately 2–4 times per year, typically overnight, for team gatherings
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Childhood Development, English, Biblical Studies, or a related field (required)
- 5+ years of editorial or content development experience
- 3+ years of kids ministry related experience
- Editing expertise across manuscript review, theological accuracy, and instructional design
- Strong editorial judgment aligned with Scripture and the Baptist Faith & Message 2000
- Clear written and verbal communication when partnering with authors, contributors, and cross-functional teams
- Attention to detail and ability to independently manage multiple overlapping editorial projects
- Content creation skills including rewriting and curriculum framework development
- Digital literacy and familiarity with publishing workflows across print and digital formats
- Active involvement in an evangelical Christian church
- Knowledge of Southern Baptist church culture and ministry structures
- Ability to travel to the Middle Tennessee area 2–4 times annually for team gatherings
- Experience developing Bible study resources or curriculum in a ministry-focused environment (preferred)
- Experience with publishing software, such as InDesign (preferred)
