Job Description
Principal Technical Writer shaping content strategy for Clarity Innovations’ secure USSF web and mobile platform. Designing governed, accessible content systems with Directus and cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and document the overarching content strategy for the USSF platform, including voice, tone, structure, and delivery standards
- Work with developers and CMS administrators to architect scalable, reusable content structures using Directus
- Establish editorial standards, style guides, and publishing workflows
- Ensure consistency and compliance across distributed authors
- Train, support, and onboard USSF personnel who contribute content
- Create playbooks, templates, and onboarding materials
- Collaborate with UX designers to write and review interface copy, microcopy, and task-based content
- Conduct content audits, user research, and stakeholder interviews
- Use analytics to improve engagement and effectiveness
- Represent content in product planning, sprint cycles, and stakeholder reviews
- Advocate for user-centered messaging and plain language principles
- Collaborate with design, product, engineering, and communications teams
- Guide a distributed group of content contributors
Requirements:
- 6+ years of experience in content strategy, UX writing, or content design for digital platforms
- Strong background working with CMS tools, preferably headless platforms like Directus, Contentful, or Strapi
- Experience creating and maintaining editorial standards, content models, and governance frameworks
- Exceptional writing and editing skills focused on clarity, tone, and accessibility
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional product teams in Agile environments
- Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility standards and user-centered content practices
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Preferred: BS in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science from an ABET accredited or CAE designated institution
- Preferred: Experience working with public affairs and legal teams within the DoD
- Preferred: Experience supporting federal or DoD digital services or working within a regulated or secure environment
- Preferred: Understanding of structured content design and content API delivery
- Preferred: Familiarity with plain language, information architecture, and UX principles
- Preferred: Exposure to security clearance processes or prior work with classified content workflows
- Preferred: Experience working in or with the USSF
