Job Description

Senior Structural Engineer leading substation and power infrastructure design for AECOM, a global infrastructure consulting firm. Developing structural models, technical documents, and multidisciplinary project solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as structural lead and engineer of record for substations, switchyards, and other electrical infrastructure projects
  • Perform engineering calculations and develop analytical models for structural steel and concrete design
  • Work with Project Engineers and Project Managers on workload forecasts, design schedules, and budgets
  • Assist with task and effort estimates for proposal support
  • Contribute to business development strategy for substations and high-voltage electrical infrastructure
  • Coordinate with civil/structural design teams to complete engineering drawings
  • Collaborate across disciplines on general arrangements and vendor procurement packages
  • Create, update, and implement group-specific standards
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, technical specifications, and contract documents
  • Check and verify peer/group work
  • Mentor civil/structural engineers and contribute to department standards development
  • Travel occasionally to AECOM locations and client sites

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field plus 6 years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Experience in structural design for overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems
  • Experience with substation projects
  • Professional Engineering Licensure (PE)
  • Preferred: 10 years of experience, including at least 3 years as structural engineering lead/engineer of record
  • Comprehensive understanding of industry codes and standards, including NESC, G.O.95, ASCE, IEEE, AISC, IBC, ACI, RUS, and NEC
  • Experience with complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams
  • Experience executing work in 3D model environments
  • Professional experience modeling, analyzing, and designing steel structures and foundations
  • Experience with various voltage levels
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD packages, including PLS-Tower and PLS-Pole
  • Experience with structural analysis and design software such as STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, MFAD, and L-Pile
  • Experience working with remote teams
  • Experience on full EPC and Design/Build projects from start to finish
  • Owner’s Engineering experience
  • Experience with retrofit or brownfield projects
