Job Description

Structural Engineer designing substations, switchyards, and transmission infrastructure for AECOM, a global infrastructure consulting firm. Supporting structural analysis, project delivery, standards, and multidisciplinary design.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support engineering and design for substations, switchyards, and other electrical infrastructure projects
  • Perform engineering calculations and develop analytical models for structural steel and concrete design
  • Work with Project Engineers and Project Managers on workload forecasts, design schedules, and civil/structural budgets
  • Assist with task and effort estimates for proposal support
  • Contribute to business development strategy for substations and high-voltage electrical infrastructure
  • Coordinate with civil/structural design teams to direct completion of engineering drawings
  • Collaborate across disciplines on general arrangements, vendor procurement packages, and similar deliverables
  • Create, update, and implement group-specific standards
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations explaining research, findings, and recommendations
  • Prepare project technical specifications and contract documents
  • Check and verify work prepared by peers or the group
  • Travel occasionally to AECOM locations and client sites

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field plus 4 years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Experience in structural design for overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems
  • Experience with substation projects
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry codes and standards including NESC, G.O.95, ASCE 113, ASCE 10, ASCE 48, IEEE 605, IEEE 693, AISC 360, ASCE 7, IBC, ACI 318, RUS, ASCE design guidelines, and NEC preferred
  • Experience participating in complex, multidisciplinary programs/projects and CAD teams
  • Experience executing work in 3D model environments
  • Experience modeling, analyzing, and designing steel structures and foundations
  • Experience with various voltage levels, including 4kV, 12kV, 138kV, 230kV, and 500kV
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD packages, including PLS-Tower and PLS-Pole
  • Experience with structural analysis and design software such as STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, MFAD, and L-Pile
  • Experience working with remote teams
  • Experience on full EPC and Design/Build projects from start to finish
  • Owner’s Engineering experience
  • Experience with retrofit or brownfield projects
