Job Description
Technical Chief of Staff representing Capital One Shopping's engineering organization. Coordinating architecture, governance, dependencies, and enterprise support for Capital One's shopping products.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain an organization-wide view of Shopping's current and planned work, including technical and business dependencies
- Influence enterprise teams in advance to secure platform support, tools, access, and approvals
- Prepare and present Shopping's progress and goals to Capital One senior leadership
- Secure decisions, investment, and buy-in needed for Shopping's work
- Navigate security, risk, compliance, procurement, and platform governance on Shopping's behalf
- Broker collaboration between Shopping and central platform and infrastructure teams
- Drive cross-team dependency orchestration for major cross-cutting initiatives
- Represent Shopping's engineering and explain or defend architecture and technical choices to enterprise platform, security, and risk partners
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
- At least 7 years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud), and data architecture
- Preferred: Master's Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
- Preferred: 10+ years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, web technologies, distributed HPC and ML systems, cloud computing, and data architecture
- 10+ years of professional coding experience in commonly used languages such as Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala
- 8+ years of experience with databases and database management systems
- 10+ years of professional experience across the full system development lifecycle
- 5+ years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
- 10+ years of experience with networking protocols and integration with third-party distributed systems
- 5+ years of experience mentoring senior engineers and driving professional development within technical teams
- 2+ years of experience leading cross-domain architectural reviews and establishing coding and design standards
- Expertise in strategic application of agentic AI coding tools
- Capital One will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization
