Job Description
Accounts and Payroll Manager owning UK payroll, Accounts Payable, and VAT for InvestEngine, an ETF investment platform. Improving finance controls, automation, and scalable processes.
Responsibilities:
- Own the end-to-end UK payroll process and ensure employees are paid accurately and on time
- Maintain payroll controls, including approvals, reconciliations, variance reviews and documentation
- Manage Accounts Payable processes and accurately process invoices and payments within agreed timelines
- Maintain accurate accounting records in Xero
- Complete payroll, Accounts Payable and relevant control-account reconciliations during monthly close
- Prepare VAT returns and maintain supporting records and reconciliations
- Identify inefficient finance processes and introduce practical improvements and automation
- Build scalable processes and controls for company headcount and transaction growth
- Collaborate with Finance, People and wider business stakeholders to resolve issues and improve processes
Requirements:
- Strong hands-on experience managing UK payroll for a small or medium-sized business
- Experience running payroll through periods of significant headcount growth
- Strong experience owning or managing an Accounts Payable function
- Confidence processing and overseeing high volumes of invoices and payments with appropriate controls
- Strong working knowledge of Xero
- Experience preparing UK VAT returns, including underlying reconciliations and supporting documentation
- Strong reconciliation and accounting control skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Comfortable taking ownership of processes and identifying improvements
- Able to work independently in a fast-moving environment while collaborating effectively with others
- English fluency at C1 level or above
- Experience with Deel is nice to have
- Experience improving or automating payroll or Accounts Payable processes is nice to have
- Experience working in a fast-growing company is nice to have
- Experience in fintech, financial services or another regulated environment is nice to have
