Job Description

HR operations director leading employee relations, compensation, and Generalist teams for a higher-education system. Driving consistent lifecycle support, compliance, and system-wide HR practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-to-day Human Resources Operations and service delivery
  • Direct, coach, develop, and performance-manage Senior HR Generalists and HR Generalists
  • Establish operational priorities, service expectations, escalation practices, and accountability
  • Implement and consistently apply HR policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures
  • Improve HR service delivery, controls, workflow, automation, and employee and manager self-service
  • Support the full employee lifecycle, including workforce planning, recruitment, hiring, onboarding, performance management, development, employee relations, and separation
  • Serve as the primary operational escalation point for complex employee relations matters
  • Lead investigations, corrective action, conflict resolution, performance management, and separations
  • Partner with institutional HR leaders to advance shared HR standards, tools, resources, and best practices
  • Provide HR leadership for reorganizations, restructures, position changes, workforce transitions, and other organizational initiatives
  • Lead operational administration of compensation programs, including job evaluation, market pricing, salary recommendations, and compensation analysis
  • Partner with Benefits, Workforce Development, Employee Engagement, HR Systems & Technology, Legal Affairs, Finance, Payroll, and Information Technology
  • Use HR data and people analytics to identify trends and inform operational recommendations
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and shared responsibility across Human Resources
  • Independently resolve routine and complex HR operational matters and escalate significant risks or enterprise decisions to the Vice President of Human Resources

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field required
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of HR leadership or management experience
  • Significant experience in employee relations, HR operations, and consultative Human Resources support required
  • Experience supporting the full employee lifecycle, including talent acquisition, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and separation
  • Advanced knowledge of Human Resources operations, employee relations, employment practices, and HR compliance
  • Knowledge of compensation, talent acquisition, performance management, workforce planning, benefits, and leave practices
  • Experience with Workday and other HR technology for data-informed decision-making
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Ability to perform effectively in a remote work environment and maintain availability during established business hours
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience supporting organizational restructuring, workforce planning, and complex employment matters strongly preferred
  • Experience working within a multi-location, multi-state, higher education, system-based, or similarly complex organization preferred
