Job Description
National Account Director leading U.S. payer access strategy for NS Pharma’s rare-disease biopharmaceutical products. Coaching NADs, managing strategic accounts, and preparing market-access teams for launches.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the day-to-day performance and development of the National Account Director team through coaching, field observation, feedback, skill development, succession planning, and clear execution standards
- Translate U.S. Market Access objectives into an actionable national payer strategy
- Optimize account segmentation, prioritization, assignment, resource deployment, and coverage across Commercial, Medicaid, Self-Funded Employers, and other relevant payer channels
- Establish and enforce strategic account planning with objectives, stakeholder maps, policy/access goals, tactics, milestones, risks, and next actions
- Personally manage selected high-priority accounts and serve as an escalation and relationship resource for the NAD team
- Develop NAD capability to lead consultative payer engagements using approved value propositions and payer materials
- Lead payer access and policy shaping strategies across medical- and pharmacy-benefit products
- Prepare and adapt the NAD organization for portfolio evolution and new launches
- Capture and translate payer evidence needs and customer insights into recommendations for HEOR/RWE, value messaging, market research, analytics, evidence generation, and access strategy
- Establish NAD KPIs and leading indicators; use performance data and account-plan progress to coach the team, redirect resources, and communicate execution status to leadership
- Partner with Medical, Patient Services, Marketing, HEOR, Analytics, Trade/Distribution, Legal/Compliance, sales/Key Account Management, Finance, and other functions
- Manage account management agencies, vendors, external partners, and payer-conference investments
- Maintain operational continuity and a high-accountability, collaborative team culture through disciplined documentation of strategies, relationships, workstreams, decisions, risks, and next actions
Requirements:
- Deep knowledge of the U.S. coverage and reimbursement landscape across Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer channels
- Proven success leading and coaching payer account teams in consultative customer engagement and strategic account execution
- Rare disease experience and expertise with medical benefit, infused/injectables required
- Cell and/or gene therapy product experience strongly preferred
- Experience developing national payer strategies, account coverage models, segmentation, prioritization, and resource allocation across complex payer organizations required
- Demonstrated payer launch readiness experience, including transitioning teams from market products to successful new product launches
- Strong understanding of medical policy, prior authorization, utilization management, formulary/access dynamics, payer evidence requirements, and access-related cross-functional strategies
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, communication, presentation, and leadership skills
- Field-based leadership role requiring travel for office visits, customer engagements, field coaching, company meetings, conferences, and industry events
- 3–5 years of demonstrated experience leading national payer strategy for medical benefit therapies required
- Account execution through at least one product launch or major access transition strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s degree in business or related area preferred
- 15+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry
- 10+ years in brand/market access marketing and market access account management and leadership
- Knowledge of payer contracting strategies preferred
