Job Description
Principal Software Engineer leading the technical direction for video technology at Canva. Overseeing complex programmes and mentoring senior engineers in a dynamic environment focused on innovation.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical direction for video technology across various teams
- Own the technical direction for complex cross-cutting programmes
- Provide credible technical leadership to multiple teams
- Architect and oversee the migration of access checks into a new platform
- Make high-stakes technical trade-offs for critical infrastructure
- Mentor and technically enable the broader engineering team
- Represent User Platform's technical strategy at executive and cross-group levels
Requirements:
- Deep expertise in Identity & Access Management at scale
- Experience designing and operating Zanzibar-style authorisation systems (e.g. SpiceDB, Google Zanzibar, OPA)
- Proven track record of driving platform adoption across large engineering organisations (300+ engineering teams)
- Strong system architecture and technical leadership skills
- Experience decomposing and evolving monolithic services in production
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and elevate senior engineers
