Job Description
Regional data centre operations leader overseeing Volta’s EMEA AI infrastructure portfolio. Driving safety, uptime, compliance, vendor performance and operational excellence across Europe.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical oversight of day-to-day data centre operations and service delivery across Volta's EMEA portfolio
- Lead Data Centre Manager, Logistics Manager, and Asset and Inventory Manager
- Provide strategic direction to site management, facilities and IT infrastructure, logistics, asset and inventory, and services teams
- Build departmental capability and drive operational excellence across the portfolio
- Review and sign off high-risk activities, including DNO outages, high-risk project works, capacity upgrades, customer fit-outs, deployments and product refreshes
- Ensure data centres comply with local and regional regulations
- Enforce and improve operational standards, processes and procedures
- Act as senior escalation point across EMEA, providing guidance, support and coaching
- Lead operations in key customer, vendor and leadership meetings across EMEA
- Work with operational engineering to improve data centre design and operations
- Drive energy-efficiency programmes across EMEA
- Manage and reduce operational risks on the portfolio risk register
- Represent Volta Operations in external forums, including environmental agencies and authorities having jurisdiction
- Implement safety, security, availability and efficiency operations pillars
- Support zero-downtime site activities through risk analysis and mitigation
- Ensure readiness to deliver against customer contractual SLAs
- Track organisational health through KPIs
- Manage critical vendors, including colocation providers, IT integrators and OEMs
- Maintain consistent operational standards across EMEA
- Sponsor EMEA projects and initiatives
- Deliver progress toward safety culture, 100% uptime, strong security, team growth, operational excellence and technical-debt reduction
Requirements:
- Electrical or mechanical qualification, ideally to degree level, or equivalent experience; or an IT qualification, ideally to degree level, or equivalent experience
- Extensive experience in data centre facilities, IT infrastructure or another critical environment
- Experience leading data centre operations, IT infrastructure and operations engineering teams
- Strong, demonstrable experience setting up and managing processes in a live critical operational environment
- Extensive real-time incident and fault management experience in a business-critical environment
- Experience managing third-party suppliers to deliver against stringent SLAs
- Experience with business continuity, risk management, incident management and change control
- Knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical cooling, fire and life safety, IT/OT systems, or data centre compute, storage and network infrastructure
- Project management experience
- Strong technical ability from a facility M&E or IT infrastructure perspective
- Excellent understanding of health and safety, ISO standards, regulation and compliance in data centres
- Comprehensive knowledge of customer installations in data centres and their contractual setup
- Ability to lead or support post-incident reviews and incident reports
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365
- Ability to work with multiple internal and external stakeholder groups
- Excellent written and spoken communication
- Right to work in the country where the role is based
- Professional-body membership and relevant IT, data centre or AI infrastructure certifications are desirable
