Job Description
Sales Engineer supporting pricing, estimating, and structural design for Cornerstone Building Brands’ pre-engineered metal building systems. Advising Builders, Sales, and Estimators on codes, designs, and value engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct pricing and design support to internal and external customers on design/build and publicly bid projects
- Apply knowledge of structures, materials, and construction techniques to support Field Sales and Estimators
- Prepare calculations and engineering details from contract drawings, specifications, and addendums
- Use in-house pricing programs and supplemental design programs
- Produce designs meeting code requirements and manufacturing restraints
- Consult Builders, Field Sales, and Estimators on building codes, complex framing scenarios, and non-standard geometries
- Identify exclusions, discrepancies, and missing information; obtain clarification and qualify quotations
- Evaluate customer information for cost-effective value-engineering solutions
- Use current pricing information when preparing estimates
- Build and maintain Builder/Vendor relationships
- Train Builder Network and Field Sales on the in-house pricing tool
- Communicate scope and design-intent clarifications with Builders, Sales, Customer Service, and Engineering
- Perform and/or check complex estimates
- Check Estimator design work
- Train and mentor less experienced Sales Engineers and Estimators
- Provide preliminary designs for Requests for Building Modifications (RBMs)
- Represent the company as an engineering advisor in sales meetings
- Report to the Estimating Manager
- Continue improving productivity, accuracy, and engineering knowledge
- Travel typically less than two times per year
Requirements:
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple workflows simultaneously
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project specifications
- Comfort communicating by phone with customers and Field Sales
- Competency with in-house design programs and procedures
- PEMB knowledge in product offerings and design considerations
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage projects for on-time completion
- Check design work done by Estimators
- Minimum 2 years of metal building design experience or related field
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or architectural engineering from an ABET-accredited curriculum, with structural design as the major field of study, or equivalent work experience
- Passed Fundamentals of Engineering exam
- AutoCAD experience preferred
- Licensed Professional Engineer required for Level I and Level III; preferred for Level II
- Minimum 4 years of metal building design experience or related field for Level II
- Minimum 10 years of metal building design experience or related field for Level I/Level III
- Advanced PEMB knowledge for Level II
- Must be at least 18 years of age to apply
