Job Description

Senior Field Service Engineer delivering remote and on-site DCS support for ABB industrial customers. Leading troubleshooting, maintenance, commissioning and lifecycle services across the UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead delivery of after-sales support for ABB Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
  • Deliver preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, system modifications, commissioning and lifecycle services
  • Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex fault finding, root-cause analysis, recovery activities and technical risk assessments
  • Provide advanced on-site, remote and out-of-hours technical support
  • Manage customer service activities and maintenance contract obligations
  • Build trusted customer relationships and provide technical guidance and recommendations
  • Conduct lifecycle audits, feasibility studies and technical assessments
  • Prepare technical reports, service documentation, quotation support and recommendations
  • Identify opportunities for additional service and lifecycle solutions
  • Coach and mentor engineers, deliver technical training and share best practices
  • Follow ABB's Code of Conduct and health, safety and environmental requirements
  • Participate in the on-call rota and travel throughout mainland UK and occasionally overseas

Requirements:

  • Degree-qualified in Engineering (BSc) or able to demonstrate equivalent engineering competence
  • Extensive experience in process control engineering, including customer-site support, maintenance, commissioning, fault finding and complex technical troubleshooting
  • Proven ability to work independently while supporting and developing others
  • Expert working knowledge of at least one Distributed Control System (DCS), with the ability to broaden expertise through training and practical application
  • Strong understanding of process control principles and industries reliant on industrial automation systems
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills, including complex diagnostics, technical reviews and risk-based decision making
  • Commercially aware, with experience supporting customer relationships, contractual commitments and technically robust service proposals
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and collaborative, with strong communication skills and excellent written and spoken English
  • Ability to participate in the on-call rota and travel throughout the UK and occasionally overseas
