Job Description
Capital Markets Product Control Director leading P&L, accounting, controls, and change initiatives at BMO. Managing specialized teams supporting global capital markets operations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead one or more Capital Markets Product Control focus areas
- Ensure integrity and accuracy of P&L, PAA, and general ledger processes
- Initiate or review accounting entries, complete reconciliations, and provide financial attestations
- Ensure accounting policies and best practices are followed
- Perform complex analysis and investigations
- Identify and implement process and control improvements
- Ensure operational accounting readiness for new products, accounting changes, and system implementations or upgrades
- Participate in change initiatives, including requirements gathering, process design, system testing, and post-implementation reviews
- Partner with Front Office, Finance, Risk and Controls, Trade Support, Project Delivery, Technology, and Operations
- Leverage AI to improve processes and drive efficiencies
- Lead daily and monthly Trader P&L and PAA reconciliations and obtain Trader signoffs
- Lead end-to-end accounting support from source sub-ledgers to entity general ledgers
- Lead SOX control environment, month-end and quarterly reconciliations, and monthly account attestations
- Lead and manage a specialized team, including direction-setting, development, performance management, and talent growth
- Improve data lineage and operational processes
- Lead risk, control, change-management, continuous-improvement, and stakeholder-relationship initiatives
- Support Capital Markets across Canada, the US, London, Ireland, and Asia
Requirements:
- University degree
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in the financial services sector, focused on capital markets, product control, and related regulatory, control, and operating environments
- An accounting designation (CA, CPA) or 10+ years of direct experience is required
- CFA designation considered an asset
- Knowledge of US and IFRS accounting standards, audit practices, financial reporting processes, and industry standards
- In-depth knowledge of Capital Markets Products and Services
- General working knowledge of Capital Market Product and Financial Reporting systems
- Solid knowledge of Capital Markets Product Operations business, services, and organization
- Strong computer skills, including strong knowledge of Excel and VBA
- Team leadership, business acumen, technical excellence, AI, operational excellence, communication, relationship management, change management, influence and negotiation, and people management skills
- Systems knowledge of Imagine, ADP (BPS), ICI (Impact), Calypso, SwapOne, Global One, Essbase/Smartview, and S4 Hanna GL considered an asset
